Air Quality

The District will use EPA AirNow for outdoor air quality measurements and does not measure indoor air quality.

As an important adaptation to both indoor air contamination through smoke and through COVID, Facilities Operation has programmed an automated COVID mode and fire mode for all buildings connected to its global building management system. This enables the District to quickly respond to an excessive outdoor smoke situation by triggering a global program at the push of a button that closes all outside air dampers across all connected buildings to prevent smoke from being pulled into the building. For COVID or any potential future similar event, the COVID mode triggers all outside air dampers to open and brings in 100% outside air and exhaust internal air for maximum air exchange. There are occasions when the air quality may deteriorate to levels that may impact District operations. The District recognizes that conditions throughout its service area vary widely. Students and employees may be affected by air quality at different levels and are encouraged to make their own decisions about appropriate activities based on their health.

SRJC Athletics follows the California Community College Athletic Association recommendations specific to student-athletes for practices and competitions.
